Juniors (Kinder – Grade 3)

Junior School caters for the 3 to 9 years age group and assumes no previous dance training. The course is an introduction to ballet, teaching musical appreciation, awareness of space and develops a child’s natural creativity. The result of many years of research, it is geared to develop and expand with the mental and physical growth of the student. Parents who are concerned about building a good foundation for their children will find Victorian Ballet Schools Children’s Dance Course ideal.

Seniors (Grade 4+)

Australian Dance Vision Syllabus

Senior School student assessment curriculum is designed by Australian Dance Vision (ADV). Students work towards their Certificates I-IV in Dance in the Nationally Recognised Training Program. ADV syllabus is mapped (contextualised) to Australian Dance institute’s Cert I-IV in Dance. The program is designed to create a safe environment for students to perform at their most optimum levels.  Students may also begin preliminary training to move towards dance teaching training and specifically Certificate IV in Dance Teaching & Management delivered by Australian Dance institute NVR-RTO 91600.

Students have a choice between receiving a report with or without a graded mark. The system is built on meeting specific learning outcomes and assessment criteria. The program has proved to build self-esteem and confidence in students and there is no ‘fail’ in the ADV system.

Students only do assessments for Classical Ballet. Jazz/Funk, Tap and Contemporary classes work towards their open day presentations throughout the year, and the annual performance in Term 4.

Classical ballet offers strength, co-ordination, body awareness, musicality and posture. Classical Ballet is the essential part of every dancer’s repertoire. In this class students will also learn French ballet terminology, anatomy and dance theory.

A modern, fun, fast moving and creative class. Teachers at Victorian Ballet School incorporate jazz technique and funk style into routines where children get a chance to present their own flare and spark to their dancing. For students in Grade 2 +

Expressive and free flowing, Contemporary style explores the different movements of dance and develops a strong awareness of posture, balance, strength and rhythm. For students in Grade 4+

Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Exciting, fun and energetic, tap is a very musical dance style. It encourages students to develop rhythm and musicality. For students in Grade 2+.

Dance Around the World

Victorian Ballet School is proud to be now offering a unique opportunity for students and families to travel and perform overseas. This year we successfully auditioned to perform in the Main Street parade at Disneyland in July 2018. VBS students will also perform at Universal Studios Hollywood, Hollywood Blvd, California Adventure and the Showcase. They will participate in Workshops at the world renown Edge Performing Arts Centre Hollywood and the Disney Performing Arts workshop program.

We trust that will become an event we can offer our students on a yearly basis.
